Obituary for Thomas C. Tucker

Thomas C.  Tucker
Thomas C. Tucker, 62, the husband of Maureen Gorman died Thursday, August 31, 2017. He succumbed to Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare neurological disease which he battled with great dignity over the last five years. Born in Grosse Pointe, MI on May 22, 1955 he was the son of Floyd J. and Geraldine (Bailey) Tucker of Rocky Hill, formerly of Adrian, MI. A 1973 graduate of Manchester High School, he studied for two years at Manchester Community College, received a BA from Wesleyan University in 1977 and later earned MS and MBA degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tom also attended the Wharton School of Business insurance executive program. Tom was an accomplished basketball player at Manchester High School and continued to be passionate about the game throughout his life. During a career spanning almost 40 years in the insurance industry Tom held positions as the Chief Underwriting Officer for The Hartford Insurance Company’s Commercial Markets Division and Senior Vice President of the Specialty Commercial segment. Prior to joining The Hartford, Tom worked at AIG where he served as Chief Undewriting Officer and Chief Risk Officer for its U.S. operations. He spent the first 20 years of his career at The Travelers Insurance Company. A survivor of the 9/11 terrorist attack in NYC, Tom helped a number of strangers to safety.

In addition to his loving wife and parents Tom is survived by his sisters, Cynthia Tucker Higgins of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Newport Beach, CA, Jeraldine, “Jerry” ,Tucker of Cromwell, and Jacqueline, “Jackie” , DiMatteo of Rocky Hill and niece and nephews; Heather Higgins van Scoyk, Tucker Higgins, Tommy DiMatteo, and Maxx DiMatteo.
The Tom Tucker Memorial Fund has been established through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. In lieu of flowers donations can be made online at www.HFPG.org or sent directly to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving at 10 Columbus Boulevard, 8th Floor, Hartford, CT 06016. A Coaches Award will be created for students that demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, dedication, character and contribution to their team, characteristics that reflect how Tom led his personal and professional life.
